I have enjoyed getting to know Alice and Belle, and their struggles. Which is why I picked up the second book, even though I felt there was too much sex and not enough story in the first book. This second book was a short piece that should have been worked into the first book instead of being its own entity. Either that or actually finish the Reconstruction Era story begun in this second book; there was plenty more that needed to happen before the plantation was safe from the high taxes.The first book was written (mostly) in first person from Belle's point of view. This one isn't written in the same format which gives it a feel of the author not paying attention to her own works. I don't prefer one way over the other, but when I am reading a sequel directly related to the previous book, I would like to be reading from the same POV.
Like the first one, Her Beguiling Bride is filled with F/F sex. So if that is what you are looking for, this here is a book for you. To me, I would have like to see more story line.

Excellent! I loved it!
I loved this novel. Both novels were filled with actions and tons of romance. I only had one problem with the way the author was so repetitive during the sexual scenes that I sometimes skipped them
Loved seeing how the author worked the very unlikely marriage into historical fact in this lesbian historical romance. Ms. Smith is an auto-buy for me now and am looking forward to more of her works.
I loved the first book and was really excited to find another book with belle and alice. The only negative is that it was so much shorter than the first book. It was a great story though but was more of a novella. If you loved the first book you'll love this too. Belle is about to lose the farm so herself and Alice head for savahnna to find a way to save it. Considering the price its well worth it.
Before you read this one, you must read Beguiled just to understand the premise. I won't go through all that here, but I will say that I gave it 4 stars because it was short, only about 50 kindle pages. Despite that it was good, it tied up the loose ends and was well-written. Again Paisley Smith does an excellent job with capturing the eroticism of the times and keeping this as steamy as the first book. She can tell a good period story and I just enjoyed this all around. Take an hour or two and just go with the flow, a good little escape from reality if you don't approach it with high expectations, it's short and sweet. As I said in my Beguiled review, just enjoy it!
If you have not read "Beguiled" by this author, please don't attempt to read this book first. Without the first story, this does not really stand alone. References to plot lines from the first book are really not enough. I found "Her Beguiling Bride" to be a fitting sequel to "Beguiled" and can be considered The End or perhaps laying the groundwork for a prequel, although I believe the former is the case. In my opinion, this is the author's best works (both books) and both were hot and steamy but with a good story line. One has to wonder if this would have been at all possible in the 1800's. Maybe, with some help from loyal friends.........or not! The prices are right and both are good reads so, enjoy!
She's followed up the wonderful Beguiled in another outing with that first books's characters and we have a satisfying ending to their saga--or at least until Smith gives us more abt these two women. Belle is the widowed owner of a small plantation that's been decimated by the Civil War but she now shares the chores with a former Yankee soldier dumped on her property when the Yanks decided they didn't want to nurse the wounded soldier back to health. Imagine Belle's surprise to learn that she is actually a woman named Alice masquerading among the men. The story continues in Her Beguiling Bride with the Reconstruction politics threatening to destroy their lives via onerous property taxes. If Belle could just marry a Yankee veteran, the taxes would be drastically slashed and they could keep the land. But can she even think of living again wih a man after Alice has shown her an entirely different world, one she now prefers? You might guess the outcome as I did, but getting to the ending was still worth my time. Smith writes lesbian love-and-lust scenes like no-one else I've ever read, and I'd love to hear abt someone better at this, if she does exist. Until she appears, consider me completely beguiled!
